Cyber Attacks on Pakistan: What You Should NOT Do & How to Stay Safe
While airstrikes on Kotli and Bahawalpur have caught global attention, a silent war is being waged in the digital world — and you could be the next target.
Today, Pakistan is facing an active cyber attack aimed at destabilizing not just infrastructure but public awareness, trust, and safety. As fake links flood messaging apps and social media, it’s critical to know what NOT to do — and what steps to take right now to protect yourself.
What You Should NOT Do Right Now
1. Don’t click on any suspicious links or forwarded URLs.
Hackers are distributing fake news, emergency alerts, and malware through WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and SMS.
2. Don’t download unknown files or apps.
Even if it appears to be a government file or urgent update — verify before downloading. These files could contain spyware or ransomware.
3. Don’t share unverified news or emergency posts.
Spreading fear or fake information contributes to cyber panic. Always check credible sources before sharing.
4. Don’t use unsecured public Wi-Fi.
Open networks can easily be hijacked by attackers to monitor your data.
5. Don’t ignore two-factor authentication (2FA).
It’s your first line of defense — and it only takes a minute to activate.
What You SHOULD Do Immediately
1. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on all your accounts
This adds an extra layer of security even if your password is compromised.
2. Use Strong, Unique Passwords
Avoid reusing passwords and use a password manager to store them securely.
3. Update Your Devices & Apps
Outdated software is vulnerable. Make sure your phone, apps, and operating system are fully updated.
4. Educate Others Around You
Share safety tips in your circles. The more aware your community is, the stronger our collective defense.
5. Follow Verified Cyber Safety Sources
